Beginning in 2000, Charley has been teaching Angelinos guitar, bass, and voice, welcoming all levels and all styles. A Berkelee College of Music graduate, Charley’s pedagogy incorporates using music the student enjoys learning in order to gain proficiency on their instrument and to explore traditional, classical and jazz theory. This approach exposes the student to the elements of diatonic harmony; in short, how and why things work in music, or why they don’t.

What People Are Saying

“Charley is a first rate guitar teacher and musician! I have been taking lessons from him for many months and seen my playing improve markedly. But even more important, in some ways, he is INSPIRING. He has an intuitive sense for where I was at and how to get me better fast. And ENJOY the process. Could not recommend Charley more HIGHLY!”

— Michael K. (Venice)

“I have been taking guitar lessons from Charley for a few years. I have classic piano training, so I can read notes for the piano but did not have that background in guitar. Charley is an extremely patient guitar teacher with an approachable style which makes it easy to work through and learn things that don't stick for me the first time easily. Many guitar teachers just focus on teaching how to play popular songs and guitar licks, but Charley understood my musical background in the piano and went beyond that by morphing our lessons into something different - he exploits what I already know, musically, and now we are doing such different things. Lately I have been using arpeggios and blues guitar scales that he taught me to play improvisations on the fly on the electric guitar, which is an instrument that I have never played before in my life. He also had me write an instrumental song, which was so much fun for me to do. With Charley, I am learning things on the guitar that I would have never imagined that I could do. Charley has been a wonderful teacher, and I highly recommend him for a guitarist at any level because he can make you better from wherever you begin!”

“Charley is patient and encouraging and classically trained (@ Berklee) - so he knows what he's talking about. I was feeling ready for open mic after a handful of lessons. He's the real deal..”

— Julie G. (Studio City)

“Charley is the best! He is an engaging and encouraging teacher. My 9-year-old has only had a few months of lessons and has already enough chords that he can play and write songs. He's ready to start a band! He looks forward to his lessons and is motivated to practice and get better during the week.”
